WHY REDEEMER BIBLE CHURCH?

Our identity is found in our name. First, we are a group of redeemed people who are passionate about glorifying Christ and making Him known. Jesus is the theme of our praise and the content of our teaching. Christ comes first at Redeemer Bible Church. Second, we are a Bible Church. We aim to teach the Bible as it is, the inerrant, authoritative Word of God. At Redeemer Bible Church, you can expect to find a place where the Bible is taught, verse-by-verse, book-by-book as we explore what God has said. Finally, we are a church. The church is God’s family, and our ambition is that Redeemer Bible Church would be not only a place you can call home, but feels like home.

“Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ” (Colossians 1:28)

OUR STORY

Redeemer Bible Church originated through the cooperative ministries of Berea Bible Church and Midwest Church Extension (MCE). The Lord gave Reed Waggoner a burden to start new churches with MCE. Meanwhile, Berea Bible Church, in Springfield, Ohio had a similar desire to start a new congregation in the Miami River Valley. The Lord allowed these two desires to merge with Redeemer Bible Church. In 2022, it was decided that Redeemer Bible Church would be planted on the East Side of Springfield Ohio. Redeemer Bible Church held its first public service on October 1st, 2023.

We rejoice at what the Lord has done and what He will accomplish through Redeemer Bible Church for His glory and for Springfield.

Redeemer Bible Church is planted in cooperation with Berea Bible Church and Midwest Church Extension.

Redeemer Bible Church is also a member of IFCA International, an association of independent, yet like-minded, churches, schools, ministry organizations, missions agencies, and individuals who partner together for the cause of Christ.

OUR MISSION

Redeemer Bible Church exists to glorify its Redeemer by making disciples who are biblically and theologically equipped to make disciples. . .

OUR VALUES

A High View of God

We believe that it is essential to know and worship God as He is, in glory, splendor and holiness. We believe that God, eternally existing in three persons, is worthy of our praise, study, and total devotion.

Our commitment to a high view of God is witnessed in our devotion to reverent, public worship, prayer, our study of theology, and in our passion to grow in our relationship with the Lord.

A High View of Scripture

We believe that the Bible is God’s revelation to us and it holds the highest place of authority in the life of the church and the individual believer. We believe that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God and is sufficient to equip the believer with everything he needs to please God.

Our commitment to a high view of Scripture is witnessed in our dedication to verse-by-verse expository preaching, in distinctively biblical counseling, and in honoring the Bible as the final authority for guiding our lives and ministry.

A High View of the Gospel

We believe that the glorious gospel is the means by which God is reconciling people to Himself in Christ. We are firmly committed to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with the lost both locally and globally. We believe that God desires all men to come to repentance and faith in Christ.

Our commitment to a high view of the gospel is witnessed in our eagerness to share the gospel in our homes and community, our support and sending of missionaries, continued involvement in church planting, and exalting Christ above all.

A High View of the Church

We believe that the church is vital to the health and growth of believers and is a beacon of hope for the lost and dying world. The church is God’s plan for His people and the means for reaching unbelievers.

Our commitment to a high view of the church is witnessed in the importance we place on church membership, qualified biblical leadership, church discipline, fellowship, and the observation of baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We place ourselves under the teaching of God’s Word, observe the ordinances, and organize ourselves under biblical leadership.

EXPOSITORY PREACHING

At Redeemer Bible Church we take seriously the biblical command to “preach the Word” (2 Tim. 4:2), and particularly the practice of expository preaching. What is expository preaching? It is a method of preaching in which the main subject of the biblical text is the main subject of the sermon. It sets, as its starting point, the biblical passage. Instead of choosing a topic to address, the preacher begins with the Bible and asks the all-important question, “what does the text say?” Expository preaching is the best way to remain true to what God has said and present it in such a way that a modern audience can understand God’s message and apply it. Far from being irrelevant, the Bible is intended to rebuke, confront, teach, encourage, and strengthen us. Thus, expository preaching is intensely practical since it brings God’s Word to bear on the lives of the listeners.

LEADERSHIP

Reed Waggoner is the church planter/pastor of Redeemer Bible Church. He has served in churches in North Carolina, Indiana, and Ohio.

Reed and Ashley Waggoner moved to Springfield, Ohio in January 2022 for the express purpose of starting a church in the area. Reed had previously served with Midwest Church Extension in Indiana. Both Reed and Ashley grew up hearing the good news of Christ and accepted God’s free gift of salvation at an early age.

Reed and Ashley are both graduates of Appalachian Bible College, and Reed has a Master of Divinity (M.Div) and Master of Theology (Th.M) from Shepherds Theological Seminary. Reed’s passion in ministry is to help Christians think critically and biblically about themselves and their world and to know and love God through His revealed Word.

Reed is also the author of Preparing for Persecution, now available on Amazon.com.

Reed and Ashley are blessed with three wonderful children. On a warm day, you might find them at a local park, playing in a creek, or walking a trail.

OUR BELIEFS

We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the verbally inspired Word of God, the final authority for faith and life, inerrant in the original writings, infallible and God-breathed (2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:20-21; Matt. 5:18; John 16:12-13).

We believe in one Triune God, eternally existing in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, co-equal in power and glory, and having the same attributes and perfections (Deut. 6:4; 2 Cor. 13:14).

We believe in God the Father, perfect in holiness, boundless in love, infinite in wisdom, measureless in power.  We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayers, and He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ, His Son (Psa. 99:3; Isa. 40:25; I Kings 8:27; I John 4:8; Gen. 17:1; 2 Cor. 6:18).

A. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man, without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful men (John 1:1-2,14; Luke 1:35).

B. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross for all mankind as a representative, vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice, and that the sufficiency of this atoning sacrifice to accomplish the redemption and justification of all who trust in Him is assured by his literal, physical resurrection from the dead (Rom. 3:24-25; 4:25; Eph. 1:7; 1 Tim. 4:10; Heb. 2:9; 1 Pet. 1:3-5; 2:24; 2 Pet. 2:1).

C. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ ascended to heaven, and is now exalted at the right hand of God, where, as our high priest, He fulfills the ministry of representative, intercessor, and advocate (Acts 1:9-10; Hebrews 9:24; Hebrews 7:25; Romans 8:34; 1 John 2:1-2).

A. We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person who convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment; and, that He is the super-natural agent in regeneration, baptizing all believers into the body of Christ, indwelling and sealing them unto the day of redemption (John 16:8-11; 2 Cor. 3:6; 1 Cor. 12:12-14; Rom. 8:9; Eph. 1:13-14).

B. We believe that the Holy Spirit is the divine teacher who guides believers into all truth; and, that it is the privilege and duty of all the saved to be filled with the Spirit (John 16:13; 1 John 2:20, 27; Eph. 5:18).

A. We believe that God spoke the universe into existence and that man was created, by a direct act of God, from the dust of the earth (Gen. 1:1; Col. 1:16; Neh. 9:6).

B. We believe the Genesis account of creation is both literal and historical in nature.

C. We believe that God completed His creative work at the close of the sixth day and that “all was good” (Gen. 1:31).

D. We believe that the six days of creation were six literal, consecutive, twenty-four hour days with no gaps of time before, between or after.

E. We believe that any belief regarding creation that contradicts the statements above are serious errors that strike at the person and glory of God.

We believe that mankind was created in the image and likeness of God, but that in Adam’s sin the race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God; and, that mankind is totally depraved, and, of himself, utterly unable to remedy his lost condition (Gen. 1:26-27; Rom. 3:22-23; 5:12; Eph. 2:1-3,12).

We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace, and is received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins (Eph. 2:8-10; John 1:12; Eph. 1:7; 1 Pet. 1:18-19).

A. We believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God’s power and are thus secure in Christ forever (John 6:37-40; 10:27-30; Rom. 8:1, 38-39; 1 Cor. 1:4-8; 1 Pet. 1:5).

B. We believe that it is the privilege of believers to rejoice in the assurance of their salvation through the testimony of God’s Word; which, however, clearly forbids the use of Christian liberty as an occasion to the flesh (Rom. 13:13-14; Gal. 5:13; Tit. 2:11-15).

We believe that every saved person possesses two natures, with provision made for victory of the new nature over the old nature through the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit; and, that all claims to the eradication of the old nature in this life are unscriptural (Rom. 6:13; 8:12-13; Gal. 5:16-25; Eph. 4:22-24; Col. 3:10; 1 Pet. 1:14-16; 1 John 3:5-9).

A. We believe that all the saved should live in such a manner as not to bring reproach upon their Savior and Lord; and, that separation from all religious apostasy, all worldly and sinful pleasures, practices and associations is commanded of God (2Tim. 3:1-5; Rom. 12:1-2; 14:13; 1 John 2:15-17; 2 John 1:9-11; 2 Cor. 6:14-7:1).

B. We believe that sexual intimacy is a wonderful gift of God that is only to be expressed between one man and one woman (as genetically defined), within the love and bonds of marriage (Gen. 2:24-25; Matt. 19:4-6; 1 Cor. 7:3-5; Heb. 13:4). Therefore, we believe that any other form of sexual intimacy is both immoral and a perversion of God’s gift (Lev. 18:1-30; Pro. 6:32; 1 Cor. 6:18; Rom. 1:26-27; 1 Thes. 4:3-8).

A. We believe that the Church, which is the body and the espoused bride of Christ, is a spiritual organism made up of all born-again persons of this present age (Eph. 1:22-23; 5:25-27; 1 Cor. 12:12-14; 2 Cor. 11:2).

B. We believe that the establishment and continuance of local churches is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament Scriptures (Acts 14:27; 20:17, 28-32; 1 Tim. 3:1-13; Tit. 1:5-11).

C. We believe in the autonomy of the local church free of any external authority or control (Acts 13:1-4; 15:19-31; 20:28; Rom. 16:1, 4; 1 Cor. 3:9, 16; 5:4-7, 13; 1 Pet. 5:1-4).

D. We believe in the ordinances of believer’s water baptism by immersion and the Lord’s supper as scriptural means of testimony for the church age (Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 2:41-42; 18:8; 1 Cor. 11:23-26).

We believe that it is the obligation of the saved to witness by life and by word to the truths of Holy Scripture and to seek to proclaim the gospel to all mankind (Mark 16:15; Acts 1:8; 2 Cor. 5:19-20).

A. We believe that God is sovereign in the bestowment of all His gifts; and, that the gifts of evangelists, pastors, and teachers are sufficient for the perfecting of the saints today; and, that speaking in tongues and the working of sign miracles gradually ceased as the New Testament Scriptures were completed and their authority became established (1 Cor. 12:4-11; 2 Cor. 12:12; Eph. 4:7-12).

B. We believe that the biblical offices of pastor and elder in the church, or their equivalents, are restricted to biblically qualified men (1 Tim. 2:12; 3:1-7; Tit. 1:5-9).

C. We believe that God does hear and answer the prayer of faith, in accord with His own will, for the sick and afflicted (John 15:7; 1 John 5:14-15).

We believe that the Scriptures interpreted in their natural, literal sense reveal divinely determined dispensations or rules of life which define man’s responsibilities in successive ages. Dispensations are not ways of salvation, but rather divinely ordered stewardships by which God directs man according to his purpose. Three of these—the age of law, the age of the Church, and the age of the millennial kingdom—are the subjects of detailed revelation in Scripture (1 Cor. 9:17; 2 Cor. 3:9-18; Gal. 3:13-25; Eph. 1:10; 3:2-10; Col. 1:24-25; Heb. 7:19; Rev. 20:2-6).

We believe that Satan is a person, the author of sin and the cause of the fall; that he is the open and declared enemy of God and man; and, that he shall be eternally punished in the Lake of Fire (Job 1:6-7; Isa. 14:12-17; Matt. 4:2-11; 25:41; Rev. 20:10).

We believe in that “Blessed Hope,” the personal, imminent, pre-tribulation and pre-millennial coming of the Lord Jesus Christ for his redeemed ones; and in his subsequent return to earth, with his saints, to establish his millennial kingdom (1 Thes. 4:13-18; Zech. 14:4-11; Rev. 19:11-16; 1 Thes. 1:10; 5:9; Rev. 3:10).

A. We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment (Matt. 25:46; John 5:28-29; 11:25-26; Rev. 20:5-6, 12-13).

B. We believe that the souls of the redeemed are, at death, absent from the body and present with the Lord, where in conscious bliss they await the first resurrection, when spirit, soul and body are reunited to be glorified forever with the Lord (Luke 23:43; Rev. 20:4-6; 2 Cor. 5:8; Phil. 1:23; 3:21; 1 Thes. 4:16-17).

C. We believe that the souls of unbelievers remain, after death, in conscious misery until the second resurrection, when with soul and body reunited they shall appear at the Great White Throne Judgment, and shall be cast into the Lake of Fire, not to be annihilated, but to suffer everlasting conscious punishment (Luke 16:19-26; Matt. 25:41-46; 2 Thes. 1:7-9; Jude 1:6-7; Mark 9:43-48; Rev. 20:11-15).

A. We believe that God has ordained and created all authority consisting of three basic institutions: (1) the home, (2) the Church, and (3) the State.

B. We believe that every person is to be subject to these authorities, but all (including the authorities themselves) are answerable to God and are to be governed by His Word.

C. We believe that God has given each institution specific biblical responsibilities with the intent that no institution has the right to infringe upon the respective responsibilities of the other.

D. We believe that civil government is ordained of God for the welfare of human society to promote and protect the good, and to restrain and punish evil. Therefore, we consider it the duty of Christians to pray for those that are in authority over them, and to give due loyalty, respect, and obedience to them. However, if the demands of civil law would militate against the supreme law and will of God, Christians should obey God rather than man. (Dan. 4:17; Matt. 22:17-21; Acts 4:1; 5:29; Rom. 13:1-7; I Tim. 2:1-4; Acts 23:5; Tit. 3:1; I Pet. 2:13,14).
